A True Story:
A local school prided itself in the quality of the food program in their cafeteria. Dedicated staff worked hard to provide quality meals that appealed to the sometimes finicky appetites of the students.
The problem: On an intermittent basis, the refrigeration in the walk-in cooler would fail. It would be down for a varying period of time and restore itself with no action on the part of the staff. Sometimes it was down for a short period, other times it was down for hours.
The concern: What if the refrigeration failed over a weekend and some of the food was affected? What if the problem then corrected itself and everything seemed OK? Could the school unintentionally serve tainted food?
Enter Seaman’s. After thorough inspection of all the compressors and refrigeration units, no problems were found. What to do – what to do? The Seaman’s technical and engineering teams were not through. Power problems were suspected so the technicians installed phase monitors to determine if power losses may be the source.
Sure enough! We determined that one of the phases of the electricity for the refrigeration was failing intermittingly for no apparent reason. Armed with specifics on the time and type of power problem, the local electric utility was called, the problem was isolated and solved.
Now we all sleep better knowing all the food in the kitchen is protected and properly chilled. The staff has confidence that all their carefully planned meals were indeed up to their very high standards.

“Seaman’s and the Jenison/Hudsonville School Food Service Department have been doing business together for over 18 years and I continue to be impressed with the quality of the service and your technicians. As you are aware, my department feeds over 5,000 children a day in 20 buildings. That means a lot of refrigerated equipment and close to a million cartons of milk a year. When I have a cooler or freezer stop working, it is critical for my operation that I have it up and running within hours. Your service department has consistently recognized this need and works very hard to make sure I can feed those children product that has been safely refrigerated.
In these times of spotty customer service, I truly appreciate the quality level of service I receive from Seaman’s. Thank you and here is to another 18 years!” Stacey L. Wykoski – Jenison/Hudsonville School Food Service
